Escuela Latina is located in Barva, lively colonial town in the foothills of the Central Valley. Though part of the metropolitan area, Barva retains it original flavor, thus offering a much more authentic Latin american experience while providing the same conveniences and activities as a larger city. The church and central plaza has been declared a national historic monument and all of the buildings in the center of town, which are mostly adobe with red-tiled roofs from the 1700s, have been preserved by law. Another significant advantage is that unlike all major cities in Costa Rica, English is rarely, spoken among the people of Barva, providing a more authentic atmosphere for learning Spanish.
Barva is located just north of heredia, home of the National University of Costa Rica. The bus service between Barva and Heredia is excellent (a 10 minute ride) with buses leaving every five minutes or so from dawn until 11 P.M. We're also a convenient 25 minutes from San Jose, the country's Capital and biggest city.
Our approach to learning employs an intense immersion experience which incluides small classes taught entirely in Spanish and homestays with Costa Rican families. The classroom includes not only the many resourcen in the school, but also the local traditional markets, parks, museums, and an unlimited number of cultural resources. Class issignments range from the traditional to the exploratory which truly challenge students' communication abilities and survival skills.
We offer a chance to experience the Costa Rica that very few tourist see. we have programs in rural and urban areas that provide students withthe opportunity to contribute to and carry out projects for the many people in need. Through these programs, you have a chance to enjoy a new and different kind of travel adventure experience. We highly encourage you to get involved with the culture for a fuller and more rewarding experience.
Our program is open to anyone from high school or college students to retirees or anyone in between who is interested in exploring a new culture and gaining skills in a new language. We are open year-round and new classes start every Monday. The long-standing stability of the Costa Rican government and accepting nature of its people makes for a perfect learning environment.
We hope you choose to study with us. we can be reached in the U.S. and Costa Rica through the numbers above. Please feel free to call if you have any questions. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Jill T. Dewey Juan Carlos Rodriguez
