At an additional cost we also offer various weekend and day trips in which all of our students may participate. There are 1,2 and 3-day trips to beaches on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts for the budget traveler of those that wish to go in style. We also have trips heading to the mountains, to the base of one of Latin America's most active volcanoes or deep into the heart of the rainforest. We also routinely schedule daytime shopping excursions as well as nighttime outings to see movies in Spanish or any number of cultural activities such as theater, dance performances, or just a night out on the town.
Payment: You must send us your registration form and a deposit of $100 U.S. to our US address at least three weeks before you intend to start classes. The deposit in the form of cashiers check, personal check, or money order, made out to Roger Dewey, is applicable towards tuition and nonrefundable unless prior notice of cancellation is given. The balance is due when the student begins classes and must be paid in the form of cash or traveler's checks made out to Escuela Latina. At this time, we do not accept personal checks or credit cards in Costa Rica.
*Schedule subject to change.LANGUAGE-TRAVEL PACKAGES
For groups of 4 or more people at the same Spanish level who are interested in travel/language packages, we can arrange "crash" courses in Spanish and culture (including language, dance, music and cooking classes) followed by tours to the places of your choice. There are countless beaches, volcanoes and national parks to visit. If the group is interested in community work, we can incorporate volunteer work into their program as well.HOMESTAYS
You free to choose the type of lodging you wish, however, we highly recommend living with a family. Choosing this "homestay" option can as much as double the exposure you have to speaking and listening to Spanish and also gives you a real-life experience with Costa Rican culture. All homestays include a private bedroom, 2 meals a day (breakfast and dinner) and weekly laundry service. All homestays are within walking distance of the school and any special dietary needs or other requests will be complied with to the best of our ability. We personally interview each family, inspect the homes, and monitor homestays to ensure a positive experience. For those who would like a private accommodations, we can easily arrange your stay in an apartment or hotel.
Important tips for Homestays:
- Be clear with your family as to what kinds of food you like or cannot eat; they should be able to accommodate your needs.
- Your family will do your laundry on a weekly basis, but you are responsible for your undergarments, which you can wash in the bathroom sink or shower.
- In many Costa Rica homes, the plumbing cannot withstand toilet paper, so please throw it in the wastebasket.
- There is no such thing as a free phone call in Costa Rica; even calls to a number across town are charged by the minute. Please refrain from making calls from your homestay unless you are using a phone card. You may use the school phone for local calls.
- You will be given a key to the house and may come and go as you please but keep in mind common courtesy and no overnight guests please.
- It's always nice to give your family a small gift: you may buy one here, like a bottle of wine if they drink, a box of chocolates, of bring something from home.
