Rancho d Espaņol
is owned and operated by Clara Cambronero and Enrique Rosales, both
Costa Rican by birth. In total Clara and Enrique have been teaching
Spanish for more than 20 years, including having worked for the
American Peace Corps teaching Spanish to U.S. volunteers serving
in Costa Rica. At Rancho de Espaņol we use the Communicative Method
for teaching Spanish. This method emphasises conversation without
neglecting grammar.
|
|
We feel that
some teaching of grammar is important to help each student ultimately
communicate effectively in Spanish. We try to make learning grammar
fun. The Communicative Method introduces students little by little
to Spanish grammar while reinforcing it with examples and conversation.
All our teachers are native Costa Rican. Although most speak little
English their knowledge of written English is more than sufficient
to help students with translations. We place an emphasis on speaking
Spanish as much as possible, however, both Clara and Enrique speak
English when translation is needed.
|
| Some
of the teaching aids we use are audio-visual materials such as flash
cards, posters, audi-tapes, videos, newspaper articles as well as
discussion groups. We use articles and discuss current events and
cultural activities in order to provide an opportunity for students
to broaden their vocabulary and exposure to Spanish as spoken in day-to-day
life. |
