Description
Located in the historic quarter of San José
and only 20 minutes from the airport, The Hotel Hemingway Inn in
San José Costa Rica offers you the comfort and privacy like
being home. So close you can find museums, great restaurants, the
Simon Bolivar Zoo, the National Theatre, souvenir shopping, banking,
the central market and the infamous night life circuit. We even
provide a walking map at the front desk to help you locate your
favorite interests.
As an authentic Spanish mansion, the Hemingway is
one of the most photographed buildings in all of San José. Though
the city has grown around it, it was originally built as a large
hacienda for the family of a wealthy coffee plantation owner in
the 1920´s. Still retaining its former charm, only ten years ago
it was completely renovated and remodelled to become an adorable
bed and breakfast.
Though none of the seventeen guest rooms are the
same, they all have posturepedic beds, cable television with over
60 channels in Spanish and English, a telephone with free calls
within Costa Rica, free Internet access for your laptop, a clock-radio,
an insured in-room safe (extra), and a private tiled bath with hot
water shower. All rooms are equipped with ceiling fans to circulate
the air, but heating and air-conditioning are never needed in San
José. Rated as one of the world´s great climates, we are a kilometer
above both the Pacific and Caribbean and enjoy a constant 72-75
degrees year -round. Our rooms come in three price ranges depending
upon size and location.

We offer a complimentary tropical buffet breakfast
on the garden patio each morning from 6 to 10 am. You will enjoy
eye-opening exotic fruit juice, home-made tomales, French bread
and local preserves, unusual fruits, mild white Costa Rican cheese,
boiled pollo eggs, and freshly perked Central Mesita coffee.
After a day exploring the sites and sounds of San
José, relax and unwind in our Jacuzzi hot tub on the jungle patio,
or keep in touch with family, friends and business on our complimentary
computer with Internet access. At dinner, take our private back
steps up to La Palma, an elegant open-air restaurant and bar specializing
in Peruvian and Costa Rican dishes.
Our knowledgable bi-lingual staff can arrange for
you to rent a reliable car or 4X4, or advise you on several types
of educational tours to the rainforests, or where to relax in thermal
pools below an active volcano, go on a sunset cruise, or settle
for the slow pace of a secluded sun-drenched beach. For the curious
there is bird and nature watching, and for the adventurous you can
climb a mountain, horseback ride or try the world´s best (and safest)
whitewater rafting. With laundry service, free luggage storage and
secure overnight parking ($8), the Hemingway´s central location
makes it a great home-base to discover all that Costa Rica has to
offer.

The Hemingway is owned and operated by Canadian,
Eric Robinson, a 1974 graduate tourism environmentalist. He makes
every effort to ensure that your stay impacts minimally and only
positively on the indigenous physical and cultural setting of this
exceptional country, and thus allowing future visitors to equally
enjoy the Costa Rican experience.
The Hemingway is open 24 hours per day, and is about
20 minutes from the international airport. We are at the corner
of Avenida 9, Calle 9, in the historic Amon district, San José.
Most taxi drivers are familiar with us and the orange colored taxis
you see when you exit the main airport terminal at all hours of
the day are your best bet.
You will love being our honored guest.
